Hey, I am posting about an upcoming event that I will be participating in, the 2019 Hood to Coast Relay. This relay is an overnight, long distance relay race held in Oregon. The relay starts at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood on Friday Aug. 23rd, and will run approximately 200 mi (320 km), through Portland, over the Oregon Coast Range to the Pacific Coast town of Seaside, Oregon, where the race finishes on Sat. Aug. 24th.
The coarse is divided into 36 sections, generally with teams of 12, each team member taking three particular legs of the race. I was contacted by a friend who is running with a team in the event. Another team member will not be able to run the event and I was asked if I could fill in the spot. Fortunately I was able to work it into my schedule so I will be running in the relay on August 23 – 24 (Fri – Sat). I am looking forward to the Hood to Coast Relay, as I have never participated in a distance relay and it should be an interesting and challenging experience.
I will be runner 7 on my team, see chart, so I will run legs 7, 19 & 31 of the relay. Here are a few images of those legs, and check out the links in this post for more information, and this link for an interactive map of the relay. The total distance for my legs is 15.1 miles, which is not bad as for long runs, but I think the challenging part will be breaking that up into 3 separate runs in a 24 hour period.
Overall I think it will be a fun event to participate in, it will be an interesting experience. I hope to get some nice pictures and GoPro Footage. It will certainly be a good training day as I continue to look forward to running the Portland Marathon on Oct. 6th.
